Not So Great Pictures of a Sundog

There are spectacular pictures of Sundogs taken this week if you do an image search on any browser of your choosing. I didn’t have my good camera and could not fit it in one shot.

Sundogs show up  when light reflects or refracts with ice crystals in the Earth’s atmosphere. It resembles a halo around the sun with a bright spot on each side. There is a good article about this that can be read here. An equally good diagram can be found here.

    So cool, but have been fun to see! I’ve never seen a sun dog…

      It was cool to see. I saw a halo last year but this is the first Sundog. Give it time, I’m sure we are all in for some great shots this year! 🙂
