Newsline: US Embassy in Iraq destroys evidence in massacring civilians case | Diplomatic Briefing

The American Embassy in Baghdad recently moved to destroy 11 vehicles considered evidence in a pending U.S. prosecution of five former Blackwater guards accused of massacring civilians in Iraq more than six years ago, the Justice Department revealed in a court filing this week. Some of the vehicles were damaged and one was crushed before an FBI agent halted their destruction, just weeks in advance of the scheduled June 11 opening date for the guards’ trial in Washington. The agent noticed that the vehicles had gone missing from one U.S. camp in Baghdad sometime since the beginning of April and he found them later the same day at another camp elsewhere in the city, prosecutors said.
